FAQ

Do you base your characters on people you know?

No. I mean, maybe I am influenced by those around me. I don't actively try to turn my friends into characters, though. Can you imagine how awkward that would be if I killed one of them off?!

Did you take a particular class to write like this?

This is a difficult question. I did go to university and study English and Creative Writing but I wouldn't necessarily say that it taught me to write like this. What it did do was introduce me to a lot of different styles and genres as well as give me a little insight into exactly how a novel is published. In short, there is no class that can teach you to write in your style because no one has ever been you.

What music do you listen to? Do you listen to music while you write?

Yes. I create a playlist for each book I am currently writing with music that conveys the mood and tone of each section/act of the narrative. There are many hours of music in my collective playlists now.

Do you have any religious views?

I am currently an Atheist. I was brought up by a loosely Christian family. But the way I see it, there is simply too much horror in the world for me to resolutely believe that any higher-being of sound mind would subject their followers to it willingly - unless they were a complete megalomaniac of course.

There is a typo in one of your books?

Surely not! Actually, contrary to popular belief, this happens all the time to even the most vaunted of authors. Publishing and writing are both very human industries and we do not have the same unerring accuracy skills as robots. If you have found a typo/grammar error/ repeated word I trust that it doesn't ruin the narrative for you and that you continue to enjoy the story.

Will you read my short story/poem / etc?

Sadly, I just don't have the time to help critique other people's work.

Can I use your characters in my book?

No, but I think a more important question should be why would you want to? There are hundreds of tutorials across the internet on character creation. Your readers want to read you not me.

Can I make fan-fiction/fan-art of your work?

For fan-fiction, I really must refer you to the question above but so far as fan-art is concerned, I love it! Feel free to draw my characters as much as you like! My only caveat is that you do so for free and not for monetary gain.

Can I interview you?

Send me a message request or email. I would be happy to discuss it with you.

Will you come to my school/ college/ university etc?

Again, send me a message or email and we can discuss it. For the record, I am always happy to talk to people but sometimes the logistics of traveling to the destination (especially if that destination is abroad) can be a problem.

I am always happy to answer questions but you can find the answer to some of the most popular ones below.
